Aberlour
Part of Chivas Brothers' portfolio, Aberlour is best known for its cult expression, A'Bunadh.
The cleverly-named blend – kuchh nai means ‘nothing’ in Hindi, providing those ordering it at the bar with a moment of cheeky satisfaction – is available in several markets, including the UK, Australia, Canada and India.
The 40% abv blend has been made using ‘heathery’ Highland malts with a touch of Islay malt for a trace of peat smoke.
Kuchh Nai was previously available as an overproof product, bottled at 51% abv by its original owner.
The original Kuchh Nai brand was launched by London’s Five Rivers International Ltd in 1996. The company registered a US trademark for the brand in 2001, although it lapsed two years later.
The company traded erratically, and the brand is now owned by Kuchh Nai Marketing Ltd – also England-based – which first entered the Canadian market with the blend before taking it ‘home’ to India in 2012.
