Dalmunach
The Imperial distillery made way for Chivas Brothers’ modern yet historically-sympathetic Dalmunach.
Created by Chivas Brothers master blender Colin Scott, Chivas Brothers Royal Citation was a non-age-statement, premium Scotch blend from whiskies matured in five different types of cask – charred new oak barrels, ex-Bourbon barrels, remade Bourbon hogsheads, remade Scotch hogsheads and Sherry butts.
Royal Citation featured some of Chivas Brothers’ oldest stocks, many of which had been further aged in former Sherry casks.
Royal Citation was launched in 1993 with a firm eye on the burgeoning duty-free market in Asia. Sales peaked at 14,000 cases the following year, although by 1996 the brand was delisted.
The same fate befell Chivas Regal 15-year-old and Chivas Imperial 18-year-old, which were also withdrawn in preparation for the launch of Chivas Regal 18-year-old in 1997.
